Automatically Clearing Win 7 Run History

I haven’t had any luck figuring out how to get Windows 7 to automatically clear the run history. If you want to do a one-off clearing, you can just change the value of MRUList and set it to an empty string, which is located in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU.

So I made a quick and dirty little program that automatically clears that for you. Just create a shortcut to it in your Startup folder and when you log on, your run history will be magically cleared. Note: I have only tested this on Win7 x64 Ultimate RTM but it should work on other flavors of Win7.

You can grab it from my site here.

Cisco VPN Replacement On Win7 x64 RTM

We use an older VPN at the office, and there’s still no x64 client from Cisco that will allow me to connect (we use IPsec over UDP). I had found a link to a product called Secure Entry by NCP (located here : make sure you get the beta Win7 compatible client or later). It worked just fine except that it’s $144. Sub ideal. I happened across a free client that, while in alpha state, is so far working 100%. It’s made by Shrew Soft and you can grab it here. Note that I’m using 2.2.0-alpha-9. IMPORTANT: The 2.1.5-rc-2 client BSOD’d my machine. So try the latest 2.2.0 branch first. I’ve been using it consistently for two days now and have had no problems updating my Perforce repository, connecting to Outlook, SharePoint, and internal shares and servers/tools.
